Greetings from Oceanview!
Several exciting things
happened over the past month here at Oceanview
Publishing.
On January 18th, Oceanview
released two books in trade paper: A Grave Breach
by James Macomber
(ISBN 978-1-933515-83-0, Thriller, Trade Paper, 360
pages, $15.00)and
Blood Island by H. Terrell Griffin
(ISBN 978-1-933515-70-0, Mystery, Trade Paper, 248
pages, $15.00).
Both are available now wherever fine books are sold.
Two Oceanview books,
In Their Blood by Sharon Potts and
Collision Of Evil by John J. LeBeau, were named
by International Thriller Writers as semi-finalists for
the Best First Novel Thriller Award. They are in a group
of twenty that will be reduced to five over the next few
months and the winner will be announced at the annual
meeting in New York in July. Congratulations, Sharon and
John! Let's all keep our fingers crossed for these two
wonderful authors
Several of our authors
have been crisscrossing the country doing book signings
and making presentations. Scott Pearson, author of
Rupture, was named "Accomplished Alumnus" by
the University of Tennessee and was invited to be a
featured speaker at a campus event on February 3rd.
Congratulations to Scott!
Susan Greger, Oceanview
president, along with associates Mary Adele Bogdon and
John Cheesman, manned a booth at the American Library
Association meeting on January 15-18 at the Boston
Convention Center. The meeting was attended by about
10,000 librarians from public libraries as well as
universities, colleges, and high schools. Many stopped
by the booth to learn more about Oceanview books.
On February 1st, Oceanview
will release its first non-fiction book, What's
Next . . . For You? by Robert and Patricia
Gussin
(ISBN 978-1-933515-73-1, Non-Fiction, Trade Paper, 144
pages, $13.50). It's the story of how
these two "retirees" changed from long careers in
medicine and medical research to novelists, vintners,
and publishers in just five years. And, by the way,
they, along with Susan Greger, are the founders of
Oceanview Publishing. It's an inspiring story that Phil
Kotler, Distinguished Professor of International
Marketing at Northwestern University, said is "...for
two groups of people. Those who haven't retired—and
those who have."
Well, that's about it.
Happy Reading.

We hope that you all had a
wonderful holiday season. Don't worry if you came out of it
a few pounds heavier. We all did. Good food, good company
and good books. What could be better?
December welcomed the
launch of DEAD AIR by Deborah Shlian and Linda Reid. And
these coauthors undertook a unique bicoastal launch with
signings in Florida and California. This wonderful "Sammy
Greene" thriller is off to a fast start and getting
incredible reviews. We have had a peek at their next in the
series, DEVIL'S WIND, and can say that Sammy has never been
better. Look for more excitement from the feisty little
red-headed radio show host-turned amateur sleuth.
December also brought
signed contracts from one new author and one repeat
Oceanview author. Miles Corwin, represented by The Philip
Spitzer Agency, signed for his book, KIND OF BLUE, a police
procedural from an ace crime reporter. And Scott Pearson,
our busy cardiac surgeon and author of the highly successful
RUPTURE, signed on for his next book, PUBLIC ANATOMY. So get
ready to get back into the thick of things with Dr. Eli
Branch, who always manages to find ways to get himself into
the action-filled hot spots.
Well, all that's left to
say is that we at Oceanview Publishing wish you the best of
years for 2010. Health, happiness and good reading!

Greetings
from Oceanview!
Oceanview
was a major hit at the Miami Book Fair (November 13-15).
Hundreds of people stopped by our booth to peruse our books
and purchased many of the books being signed by our authors
in attendance, including Barbara Levenson, Don Bruns,
Deborah and Joel Shlian, Martha Powers, Sharon Potts, and
Pat and Bob Gussin. Several of the Oceanview authors
participated on panels and also signed their books at the
Mystery Writers of America booth. On Monday, November 16,
most of these authors traveled about 30 miles north to
Delray Beach for an "Oceanview Authors Night" and book
signing at the famous mystery bookstore, Murder on the
Beach. A large crowd of fans attended and purchased books
personalized and signed by the authors.
November
2 marked the launch of Stuff To Spy For by Don Bruns and on
November 16 we celebrated the launch of Wyatt's Revenge by
H. Terrell Griffin. Both of these books bring back the
wonderful characters of these authors previous works; James
Lessor and Skip Moore, the lovable, ne’er-do-well
twenty-three-year-olds in Stuff To Spy For and Matt Royal,
the retired attorney/wannabe beach bum and "take no
prisoners" problem solver in Terry Griffins Wyatt's Revenge.
These books are getting great reviews and are definitely
"must-reads".
And now
we look forward to December and the launch of Dead Air by
Deborah Shlian and Linda Reid on the 7th. Deborah and her
husband, Joel, wrote the spellbinding and award-winning
Rabbit in the Moon, and now Deborah and Linda, also a
physician, introduce Sammy Greene, a young talk-radio host
on a quiet college campus with some deep, dark secrets.
Sammy, an outspoken, brash, native New Yorker is determined
to bring it all out in the open—even though she may have to
risk her life to do it.
As you
can see, we are ending the year with a bang. HAPPY HOLIDAYS
to all from the gang at Oceanview and a very healthy, happy
New Year.

Great news for Oceanview this
month: the announcement of the National Best Books 2009
Awards created a banner day for Oceanview Publishing. Seven
of our authors were awarded!
Fiction and Literature: Thriller/Adventure
Winner: Dead Air by Deborah Shlian and Linda Reid
Fiction and Literature: Religious Fiction
Winner: The Purple Culture by Stephen Boehrer
Fiction and Literature: Mystery/Suspense
Winner: Wyatt's Revenge by H. Terrell Griffin
Fiction and Literature: Mystery/Suspense
Finalist: Bahama Burnout by Don Bruns
Finalist: Stuff to Spy For by Don Bruns
Finalist: The Test by Patricia Gussin
Best New Fiction
Finalist: In Their Blood by Sharon Potts
Congratulations to all of these wonderful authors!
John LeBeau (Collision of Evil) made a long trip from his
home in Garmisch, Germany for a signing tour in Washington,
D.C., Pittsburgh, and locations in Connecticut and
Massachusetts. After this very successful signing tour, John
is back enjoying the beautiful fall colors of Garmisch.
Pat Gussin (The Test) started her signing tour with a highly
successful effort at Barnes & Noble on the Duquesne
University campus in Pittsburgh, followed by another
well-attended signing at the Barnes & Noble in Devon,
Pennsylvania. Devon has a special significance since it is
the location where the story is set. After Devon, Pat signed
at a launch party in Gwynedd, Pennsylvania.
November brings more excitement with the launch of Stuff to
Spy For by Don Bruns and Wyatt's Revenge by H. Terrell
Griffin. As noted earlier, both of these have already gotten
recognition with awards from National Best Books 2009. Don's
book, the third in the "Stuff" series following Stuff to Die
For and Stuff Dreams Are Made Of, once again puts our
hard-luck duo of Skip Moore and James Lessor in trouble as
they reluctantly stumble into the role of super spies.
Terry's book, Wyatt's Revenge, brings back Matt Royal, our
hero from Blood Island, in a wild and exciting adventure as
Matt is determined to avenge the murder of his very good
friend, Laurence Wyatt. His challenge is to avoid becoming
the next victim.
That's all for now.
Happy Thanksgiving and keep reading!

Greetings from Oceanview!
The fall colors are coming
out with the same glorius burst as the recent Oceanview
releases. COLLISION OF EVIL by John Le Beau was released
September 21 to great reviews and now Le Beau is on his way
to the US for book signings in the Washington, D.C.,
Pittsburgh, and Boston areas. Click on John's website to see
the schedule.
Pat Gussin's THE TEST was
released October 5. Publishers Weekly says "Fans of TV's
Dynasty and Sidney Sheldon will like Gussin's stand-alone
novel." Pretty good comparisons!
More good news. IN THEIR
BLOOD by Sharon Potts hit the number one spot on the Murder
on the Beach Mystery Bookstore's weekly bestseller list
beating out Dan Brown's THE LOST SYMBOL. Congratulations
Sharon.
Finally, brace yourself for
November 2 and the release of Don Bruns's third book in the

Greetings from Oceanview! We hope you are having a great
summer. It’s definitely been a busy summer at Oceanview and
we’re happy to share the latest Oceanview news with you.
We
would like to begin by congratulations to Martha Powers,
whose latest novel, Conspiracy of Silence has been
named a finalist in the Romantic Suspense category of the
2009 Book Buyers Best awards competition, sponsored by the
Orange County Chapter of Romance Writers of America. Way to
go, Martha!
We are
delighted to announce the release of a trade paper edition
of Stuff to Die For by Don Bruns, book one of Don’s
Stuff series (aka ‘dude-dunits’) featuring
James Lessor and Skip Moore. Stuff to Die For is now
available wherever find books are sold.
We are
happy to introduce two new staff members to the Oceanview
team – Rachel Fichter and Meghan Uliana.
Rachel
will be handling our author signing program with both chain
bookstores and the independents. A graduate of Kent State
University, with a degree in Magazine Journalism, and
Belmont University, with an MA in Literature, Rachel
previously worked as a senior editor at Cold Tree
Publishing. Rachel and her husband live in Nashville,
Tennessee.
Meghan’s primary focus will be selling Oceanview books to
the independent bookstores. A graduate of Kutztown
University, with a degree in Marketing, Meghan previously
worked in sales for the Boston Beer Company (maker of Sam
Adams) and held a variety of positions ranging from District
Manager to National Accounts Manager. Meghan lives in Wind
Gap, Pennsylvania, with her husband and six-month old
daughter, Ava.
We are
thrilled to have Rachel and Meghan on board and extend a
warm welcome to both!
We are
just one month away from celebrating the release of our
first two Fall 2009 releases – In Their Blood by
Sharon Potts and Collision of Evil by John J. Le
Beau.
A
timely and topical debut, In Their Blood
is an extraordinary tale of
what happens when a seemingly-ordinary family is shattered
by a violent crime. We will release a hardcover edition of
In Their Blood on September 8.
According to Michael Connelly, New York Times
best-selling author of The Scarecrow, “In Their
Blood starts with a bang and never lets up. This is
thriller writing the way it is supposed to be.”
We are
delighted to announce that In Their Blood received an
advance, starred Publishers Weekly review (July 20,
2009) that calls the book “a red-hot suspense
novel.” Congratulations, Sharon!
In
Collision of Evil, John J. Le Beau, who served as a
clandestine operations officer in the Central Intelligence
Agency for over 25 years, delivers a chilling, terrifying,
and stunning tale about deadly intentions and dangerous
consequences. We will release Collision of Evil in
hardcover on September 21.
According
to Steve Berry, New York Times best-selling author of
The Charlemagne Pursuit, “Collision
of Evil
is atmospheric and tense and pushes the envelope to the edge
and beyond. Le Beau, a former-CIA operative, knows what
he's writing about. A smashing debut from an
exciting talent."
In
addition, H. Michael Mears,
Former Chief (Ret.), Human Capital, Central Intelligence
Agency, adds: “John J. Le Beau immerses us into a world he
knows first-hand. His writing is based on fact, not fancy,
and is as realistic as it gets. Collision of Evil is
a perfectly-paced thriller, taking the reader from one
exotic action-packed scene to another. I recommend
Collision of Evil to anyone who wants to know what it’s
really like in the shadow world.”
We
eagerly await the release of these two phenomenal debuts.
Please
stay tuned for more updates in September. Till then, have a
terrific month, and as always, thank you for visiting

Greetings from Oceanview!
May
finds us well into our Spring/Summer 2009 releases, and hard
at work on both our Fall 2009 and Spring/Summer 2010 lists.
But
before we get to the news about our most recent books, we’d
like to offer our congratulations to Martha Powers, whose
latest novel, Conspiracy of
Silence, has been named a finalist in the
Write Touch Readers’ Award’s romantic suspense category.
Way to go, Martha!
We are
thrilled to announce the May publication of
The Purple Culture by
Stephen Boehrer.
A
timely and controversial novel, The Purple Culture is
getting lots of attention, and has already received a number
of early rave reviews, including:
“Well written, interesting, and thought-provoking.” - The
Baryon Review of Books
“Although a profound legal thriller that extrapolates from
the headlines, The Purple Culture is much more. A
brilliant tale.” - Harriet Klausner
“Clean writing, as direct as a court transcription. It
doesn’t shy away from the issues.” - National Catholic
Reporter
“Boehrer tackles a difficult subject in The Purple
Culture trying to understand why upper-level clergy
would essentially condone deplorable behavior by its
priests. The book may cause some controversy, but at least
it will get people thinking. I look forward to reading more
from this talented author.” -
Fresh
Fiction
“Boehrer makes a compelling case. The book is an examination
of what the author calls the purple culture – a study of the
hierarchy of the institution. Boehrer contends it is the
hierarchy that is inherently flawed, not the church. And he
does it in a most convincing way. As a member of the
faithful, this is good news.” - Armchair Interviews
Congratulations, Steve!
We are
also thrilled to congratulate Alan S. Evans, author of the
newly-release Spirit Horses,
for a phenomenal launch event at Goerings Book Store in
Gainesville, Florida. Rumor has it that Alan’s signing may
have been the most well-attended event in the store’s
history. Congratulations, Alan!
We are
also pleased to share some early good news for Margaret
Fenton, author of Little Lamb
Lost, which we’ll release on June 1.
In an advance review in their April 6, 2009 issue,
Publishers Weekly says Little Lamb Lost author
Margaret Fenton “puts
her experiences as a social worker to good use in her
promising debut. With her fine ear for regional speech,
Fenton may do for Birmingham what Margaret Maron has done
for rural North Carolina.”
Congratulations, Margaret!
Please
stay tuned for more updates in June. Till then, have a

Greetings from
Oceanview,
and Happy New Year! We hope you all had a wonderful holiday
season.
We are so excited to see what 2009 holds in store. We have a
tremendous list of new titles coming your way, as well as
several trade paper releases of some of previously-released
hardcovers. Please stay tuned for updates and more
information.
We are just one month away from our first two 2009 Spring releases
– Fatal February by Barbara Levenson and Rupture
by A. Scott Pearson. Both Fatal February and
Rupture will be available nationwide on
February 1, 2009.
In Fatal February, Levenson, a longtime Miami resident who
currently serves as a senior judge in the circuit court of
Miami-Dade County, introduces protagonist Mary Magruder
Katz, a half Jewish, half Southern Baptist Miami criminal
defense attorney. Mary’s life starts to spin out of control
when a minor fender bender turns out to be an unlikely shot
from Cupid’s bow. Carlos Martin, the other car’s driver,
isn’t just a distracted driver; he’s distracting.
Carlos is charming, handsome, and mysterious. Hardly before
she knows what hit her, Mary breaks off her engagement,
jumps into a sizzling romance with Carlos, gets fired from
her former fiancé’s highbrow law firm, starts her own
practice, and lands her first client, Lillian Yarmouth. But
Lillian isn’t just any client; she’s the prime suspect in
what’s become the
Miami
society murder of the year. And it’s up to Mary to prove
Lillian’s innocence. Mary soon finds that this case, like
all matters of the heart, is anything but black and white.
And Mary has clearly stumbled onto something that has
someone seeing red. February may be the shortest month of
the year, but Mary’s got some long days--and nights--ahead.
This month could be a real killer.
Author Barbara Levenson delivers a winning
recipe in Fatal February. One part mystery, one part
romance, a scoop of hilarious, and a dash of tension, mixed
with the fantastically quirky Mary Magruder Katz yields a
delightfully charming debut. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, but
it doesn’t get much better than (Mary Magruder) Katz.
In Rupture, Nashville-based novelist and surgeon A. Scott
Pearson introduces protagonist Dr. Eli Branch. Well on
his way to realizing his dream of becoming a successful
surgeon-scientist, Eli Branch seems destined for academic
stardom. After years of research, Eli is on the cusp of a
groundbreaking discovery that could light the way for the
future. But, as Eli will soon learn, today’s medicine has a
very dark side. While investigating the suspicious death of
one of his patients, Eli uncovers an elaborate web of lies
spun by his late father, a longtime professor of anatomy at
Mid-South Medical College in Memphis. Instead of finding
answers, Eli only finds more questions–and more victims,
each meeting a sudden, violent end. Trapped in the paradox
of ending one life to save another, Eli will find that in
this life-or-death race against time, one false step could
be fatal.
According to Publishers Weekly,
“Pearson, himself an M.D., dramatically describes operating
scenes and lucidly explains medical issues, from aortic
device failures to stem cell therapy. Branch makes for an
appealing hero as he fights the steep odds against him.”
Michael Palmer, New York Times best-selling author of
The First Patient calls Rupture “top notch
medical suspense that will have you turning pages deep into
the night. Rupture is the best medical thriller I’ve
read in a long time.” Please be sure to check out these
wonderful new
Oceanview releases.
We want to offer congratulations to H. Terrell (Terry)
Griffin for a sensational launch of
Blood
Island.
From stellar reviews, to standing-room-only crowds at
signings, to a phenomenal 5-day blog tour,
Terry Griffin, according to the Longboat Observer,
“has done it again. Griffin’s third book promises to be
another bookshelf staple.” Congratulations, Terry, and
thanks so much for all of your hard work in making this come
together.
Congratulations are definitely in order to Don Bruns, who was
featured in the December issue of Sky Magazine, the
in-flight magazine of Delta Airlines. Featured as
December’s “mystery traveler,” Don is featured in a full
page interview that includes picture of Don playing guitar
on a sandy beach. Don’s Q+A session with Sky covers
research, the Mick Sever books, and a brief glimpse at Don's
March release, Bahama
Burnout.
Please visit Don’s web site –
www.donburnsbooks.com
– for a direct link to the full article. We are also
thrilled to announce that Blackstone audio has just released
an audio edition of Don’s
St. Barts Breakdown.
Congratulations, Don!

September
2008 |

Greetings
from Oceanview! With summer just behind us, it’s time to
focus on our Fall 2008 book releases. And do we ever have a
fantastic list!
We are
pleased to announce the release of Stuff Dreams Are Made
Of by Don Bruns. The follow up to the multiple
award-winning Stuff to Die For, Stuff Dreams Are Made Of
heralds the return of lovable, bumbling would-be
entrepreneurs turned amateur sleuths James Lessor and Skip
Moore. Lessor and Moore, described
by reviewers and readers alike as what the Hardy Boys would
be as grownups are really more likely the hardly
boys. James and Skip are hardly kids, hardly adults, hardly
successful, but completely hilarious. A devilishly
funny, charming, and shrewdly suspenseful novel, Stuff
Dreams Are Made Of is just the right stuff for mystery
readers young and old.
Check out
these early reviews:
“Bruns
maintains a narrative tone that would have done Huck Finn
proud in this combination Andy Hardy adventure and
hard-boiled thriller.” --Booklist
“A
delightfully sinful sequel.”--Deadly Pleasures
“Another
excellent book by Don Bruns. His prose is crisp as ever, the
plot is gripping. Once you start reading this one, you won’t
put it down.”--Andrew F. Gulli, editor of The Strand
Magazine
We are
delighted to announce that Stuff Dreams Are Made Of
has been selected by IndieBound as an Indie Next List
Notable for October. Congratulations, Don…and a hearty
welcome back to James and Skip!
Also, it
is with great pleasure that we announce that Stuff to Die
For has been awarded the Silver Falchion Award at
this year’s Killer Nashville conference. The first annual
Silver Falchion Award was presented to mark the best
achievement in publishing to a Killer Nashville attending
author as voted on by his or her peers. Congratulations,
Don! And special thanks to A. Scott Pearson, Margaret
Fenton, and Don Bruns for attending this year’s Killer
Nashville conference.
We’re
gearing up for the forthcoming release of Stealing
Trinity the eagerly-anticipated follow up to Ward
Larsen’s The Perfect Assassin. Stealing Trinity will
be released on October 1, 2008, at which time we will
simultaneously release a trade paper edition of The
Perfect Assassin.
Rounding
out our Fall list is Conspiracy of Silence by Martha
Powers, along with a trade paper edition of Martha’s
blockbuster novel, Death Angel, both coming November
1, and
Blood Island by H.
Terrell Griffin on December 1.
Be sure
to check back for more updates on these fantastic
forthcoming titles.
We want
to extend big congratulations to Lawrence Light and Meredith
Anthony, authors of Ladykiller, which was recently
highlighted by Mysterious Matters as “gloriously
uncompromising” and one of the best independently-published
books around.
Click HERE to check out the article.
Another
note of congratulations goes to Todd Buchholz, author of
The Castro Gene, for an excellent review in the
Lincoln Journal-Star, which states, “There
are so many Castro and Kennedy novels. But this combination
is different and worth the wait. Read it.” Congratulations,
Todd!
Congratulations to Adam Gittlin for more terrific reviews of
The Deal, including:
“The
Deal is a fast paced financial thriller with a perplexing plot
that is riddled with schemes and conspiracies. A terrific
book, The Deal should be on everyone's reading list this
summer.” --Mysterious Reviews
“A
penetrating novel. The story provides a thrill a minute.” --
Spinetingler Magazine
“A fresh,
intense, read that will keep you on the edge of your seat…or
beach towel.” --Social Life
Magazine
Congratulations are also in order to Deborah and Joel Shlian
for more wonderful reviews of their timely and topical
Chinese-American thriller Rabbit in the Moon. Check
out some of this great praise:
“This
thriller is at times so fast-paced it leaves you breathless.
A thoughtful, educational read.” --Mystery
Scene Magazine
“A timely
Chinese-American thriller that takes the reader on a fast
paced tour of China.” --Round Table Reviews
“A very satisfying read. A totally new type of thriller. For a
fascinating change of pace pick up Rabbit in the Moon”
--MysteryReviewer.Blogspot.com
